How to Steal a Dog
by Barbara O'Connor.
Georgina is a young girl who lives a difficult life. Her father left which eventually led to their
eviction. She lives in a car with her mother and younger brother. Desperate
to change their situtation, she hatches a plan after seeing a poster of a
missing dog. She and her brother try, several times, to steal a dog so that
they can return it and collect the reward money. Her plan backfires repeatedly
and she meets some very wise friends who help change her perspective on life.
At the end of the story, they still live in their car, but her outlook changes
because of her experiences.
